Learn how to protect your cell phone
If you've ever needed to measure something quickly and didn't have a tape measure nearby, you know how frustrating it can be.
I recently found myself in this situation while trying to plan the purchase of new furniture for my living room.
That's when I discovered that there are apps that turn your cell phone into a digital tape measure!
So I decided to test it out cell phone tape measure apps most popular to see if they really work and if they are worth it.
Why can a digital tape measure app be useful?
Having an app that turns your cell phone into a digital tape measure is extremely useful in many situations.
Whether it's to measure a space before buying furniture, check the footage of a room for renovations or even for professional work such as architecture and interior design.
The convenience of using just your smartphone, without having to carry a physical tape measure, makes all the difference in your day-to-day life.
Additionally, these apps use augmented reality (AR) technology and the phone's own sensors to accurately calculate distances.
This allows anyone, even without technical knowledge, to take measurements in just a few seconds.
My tests with two digital tape measure apps
To test this feature, I chose two well-known apps that are highly rated on the Play Store and the App Store. They are:
- Measure (Google)
- Ruler App: Smart Measure Tools
Below, I share my experience with each of them, highlighting positive and negative points and whether they are free or paid.
1. Measure (Google)
At first I tested it was the Measure, developed by Google itself.
Since it already comes built into some newer Android phones, it was very easy to use.
Simply point your phone's camera at an object or surface and slide your finger across the screen to mark the measurement points.
Highlights:
Simple and intuitive interface.
It works well for measuring furniture and medium-sized objects.
It is a completely free application.
Measures height, width and even flat surfaces.
Negative points:
Does not work on all phones (only those with ARCore).
May be inaccurate on non-flat or poorly lit surfaces.
Overall, the Measure It is an excellent option for those who have a compatible cell phone and need something quick and easy.
2. Ruler App: Smart Measure Tools
The second app I tested was Ruler App: Smart Measure Tools.
However, it has more features than Measure and allows measurements in different modes, including ruler, angles and height of objects.
Highlights:
It measures not only distances, but also angles and heights.
It has more customization options and adjustments.
The interface is modern and well organized.
Works on more devices, without needing ARCore.
Negative points:
Some advanced features are only available in the paid version.
It can be a little more complex for beginners.
O Ruler App It proved to be more complete, but some functions are blocked in the free version.
If you need something more advanced, it might be worth investing in the premium version.
Which app is more worthwhile?
Anyway, if you want a free and simple app for basic measurements, Measure (Google) is a great choice.
However, if you are looking for something more complete and with more features, Ruler App: Smart Measure Tools may be the best option, even with some limitations in the free version.
But, regardless of the application you choose, having a digital tape measure on your cell phone can save your day and avoid problems when measuring anything.
So, I have already adopted this tool in my daily life and I recommend it to anyone who wants more practicality! And you, have you tried any of these apps? Tell us about your experience!
