Today I will show you the comparison that ends with two apps to find out which is the best app to watch MLB
You've probably already looked for apps that offer this experience. I tested two of the most popular ones: MLB App and Yahoo Sports.
Both promise to cover the league in full, but do they deliver on their promises?
Which one is the best?app to watch MLB? Let's compare!
First Impressions and Interface
I downloaded both apps and immediately noticed some differences.
O MLB App It has a more professional look, with dark colors and very intuitive navigation.
Everything is well organized: statistics, news, live games and, of course, the broadcasts.
Already the Yahoo Sports has a more generic layout as it covers several sports besides MLB.
It's great for those who follow other leagues like the NFL and NBA, but for those who want something entirely focused on baseball, it might seem a bit cluttered.
Live Streams: Who Does It Better?
Here's a crucial point: Which app is best for watching games?
- MLB App: Offers live broadcasts through the service MLB.TV, which allows you to watch all regular season and playoff games. The downside is that you need to subscribe to a paid plan to do so. However, there is a “Free Game of the Day”, where you can watch a match free of charge. This option is a great advantage for those who don’t want to pay for a full subscription, but still want to watch live games.
- Yahoo Sports: It doesn't stream live games directly on the app. It does allow you to follow real-time scores and watch some highlight videos, but if you want to actually watch the games live, you'll need to access third-party links or subscribe to external services.
Winner: MLB App – Even though it requires a subscription for most of the streams, it still offers the Free Game of the Day, something Yahoo Sports doesn't have.
Statistics and News Coverage
I like to think that all of them are well updated due to their high level of quality, but here we go:
- MLB App: It has extremely detailed statistics, pitcher performances, and team rankings. It also offers official news directly from the league.
- Yahoo Sports: The stats are good, but not as in-depth as the MLB app. However, it stands out for aggregating news from various sources, including specialized websites, which gives a broader view of what's happening in the league.
Winner: Draw – The MLB App has richer stats, but Yahoo Sports wins points for news variety.
User Experience and Personalization
- MLB App: Allows you to personalize your feed with your favorite team, sending notifications about games, scores and specific news about them.
- Yahoo Sports: It also has this functionality, but it is not as refined. Notifications could be more generic and include news from other sports.
Winner: MLB App – If you want a more personalized experience, this is the ideal app.
Availability and Price
- MLB App: Available for Android and iOS. It's free to download, but most live streams require a subscription. MLB.TV.
- Yahoo Sports: Also free and available for Android and iOS. It does not require payment, but does not broadcast live games.
Winner: Yahoo Sports – If your focus is an app 100% free, it can be a good choice. But if you want to watch the games, the MLB App will be necessary.
Final Verdict: Which One to Choose?
If your focus is watch MLB games, the MLB App is the best choice.
I found it incredible that this platform makes one game per day available to watch completely free.
On the other hand, if you don't mind not watching the games directly in the app and want a free app to follow scores, stats and news from various sports, then the Yahoo Sports could be a good alternative.
My Personal Choice
Testing both, I was left with the MLB App. The ability to watch a free game a day and the completely baseball-focused interface were the deciding factors for me.
But if you want something free and don't care about live streaming, Yahoo Sports may be enough for your needs.
